2016 Sierra 1500

2016 GM Hybrid Trucks Are Making A Return To California

GM is taking another shot at the hybrid truck game. 2016 will bring 700 new GM hybrid trucks; 500 are going to be Silverado 1500 options and 200 will be Sierra 1500 options. Apart from limiting production to 700 trucks, GM is making the 2016 hybrid trucks exclusive to California. The eAssist option is only offered on Silverado 1500 Crew Cab 1LT 2WD models or the Sierra 1500 SLT Crew Cab 2WD models with SLT Premium Plus package.

eAssist Vehicle Specs

The eAssist trucks offer an estimated 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. They will be capable of towing up to 9,400 pounds and they will yield an EPA-estimated 18 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway. That is some sleek efficiency. You'll also find high grade features like Bose audio, a rear vision camera and Lane Keep Assist.

eAssist Technology

eAssist tech utilizes a small electric motor and a 24 cell air-cooled .45-kWh battery pack to produce extra power and torque. Like typical hybrid tech, the motor does not substitute gas engine operations; instead it functions together with gas engines to balance gas consumption. The small electric motor offers 13 horsepower and 44 lb-ft of torque. This power might seem minuscule but the motor permits the engine to operate in a four-cylinder mode that raises MPG by 2, both in the city and on the highway.
